Blood Bank of Alaska celebrates the groundbreaking for the new facility in Anchorage today. We are honored to have Commissioner Streur speaking on behalf of Governor Sean Parnell. This event marks the beginning of a project that has been in the works for many years through the effort of many community leaders. Alaskans are all a little safer today as we move forward. BBA would like to thank the many individuals and organizations that have supported us, which includes our groundbreaking event sponsors.
Our annual Kodiak Crab Festival drive was a great success. Thank you to KXMT-FM for helping get the word out to donors and for their support to save Alaska patients in need. The Crab Fest marks the beginning of the summer months, when demand increases and supply tends to diminish. BBA was able to collect 119 units, which potentially could save 357 lives.
Blood Bank of Alaska is so excited that on Monday April 7, 2014 the construction began at our new building site. The new facility is scheduled to be completed in 2015 and we are still raising funds for this effort. This building will provide Alaska with a safe blood supply in times of disaster and bring an additional state-of-the-art laboratory to our community. Click Read more to view a slide show.
